Before EA Sports introduced parrying into the mix, before it was called Fight Night and before we worried about things like online lag, me and the homies used to bust heads on the game called Knockout Kings. June 2nd, 2009

walenga-image46_bmp_jpgcopy3

Remember when I mentioned Ian Cummings saying something about online franchise in that online co-op vid? Well yesterday that was confirmed as EA announced during their E3 press conference that Madden NFL 10 would indeed have online franchise! Of course Madden faithfuls have screamed for this for a long time and EA finally delivered. Like Teambuilder in NCAA Football 10, everything about Madden online franchise will be accessible on the web. Madden NFL 10 Online Franchise features a robust feature set, including live drafts, player transactions, league message boards, and more – all manageable from your console, remotely through a web browser, or via a custom iPod Touch Application. Even if you aren’t near your console and you have a live franchise draft coming up, you can keep up via an internet connection and web browser. We’ll keep you updated about the online franchise as more details come from E3 and the coming weeks. For now continue on to see some new franchise screens.

NCAA Football 10: Teambuilder Goes Live

June 2nd, 2009

teambuilderea_bmp_jpgcopy
Tons of sports gaming news coming out this week due to E3 with the first being EA announcing that their Teambuilder site has gone live. NCAA fans have clamoring for the return of their beloved create-a-school mode, and EA not only delivered but upped the ante by making everything web based. I just hope while I’m in a meeting at work, my mind doesn’t wander off thinking about how fast I should make my halfback on my created FAMU squad. EA even put up a document containing the 2400+ Teambuilder names that will be available with in-game audio. You can see that here and continue on to some new TB screens.

Madden NFL 10 News: Online Co-op Play

May 29th, 2009

madden10_gonzalez_560x315
With the excitement building for next week’s E3 event, we got some early news about one of the new online modes in Madden NFL 10. For the first time in franchise history, EA SPORTS introduces Online Co-op play! Now you’ll be able to get your T.O. on, and yell at your boy for not getting you the ball as he missed you wide open in the endzone as the wide receiver. Seriously though, this was great news for Madden fans as they have wanted this for years. Whether you’re teaming up on offense or defense, this should be a nice change up from the regular head to head matchups.

Something else to note about the video. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear lead designer Ian Cummings make a quick mention about online franchise at the end of his sentence (at around the 1:39 mark). Hmmmmmm, while we’ll have to wait until next week for confirmation, that definitely got everyone’s attention. Video after the jump.

Last week I was invited down to the offices of Access Communications (2K Sports’ pr department) to get some more hands-on time with The Bigs 2, which included partaking in a Homerun Pinball tournament. While the primary purpose was to demonstrate how much 2K has improved the mode from the first Bigs game, it also proved how much of a blast Homerun Pinball could be playing with a group of people. So how did I do when the tournament kicked off? Continue on to find out.

Madden 10: Top 10 Player Ratings

May 27th, 2009

madden10_peterson_560x315
ESPN has posted up the top 10 player ratings at some positions from Madden 10 along with a few of the individual ratings catergories. While I was happy to see Brandon Jacobs at 90 ovr, I was a bit disappointed by his 86 speed. Last year BJ was around 91 speed and he moves pretty fast for a big bruiser. Hopefully with the new technology at work it won’t matter much and I’ll just be able to run over the defenders who get in his way. You can view each position via a few clicks: QB RB WR TE DEF

Madden 10’s New Injury System

May 19th, 2009

untitledm10
EA’s latest blog on Madden 10 sheds some light on the new injury system they’re impementing into the game this year. Instead guys just randomly getting hurt with it really having no bearing on the outcome of the game, they’ve fleshed it out more this year by adding a strategic element to it:

As a design team, we had many different priorities to juggle this year, and countless features and additions that we wanted to add to the game. Overhauling our injury system however rose to the top of our list quite quickly because it was an area that was 100% core to what you see on Sundays, yet it hadn’t accurately been represented in Madden’s history (especially on 360/PS3).
